Getting Ready to Run

Purpose

After completing this three hour training, potential candidates and campaign volunteers will know and be able to implement the basic steps of running a local and state-level political campaign, as well as what actions a potential candidate can legally take before filing.

After attending the Getting Ready to Run training, attendees will be able to:

  1. Evaluate their readiness to run for office or volunteer for a campaign

  2. Identify filing deadlines and be ready to implement the filing requirements

  3. Research the current political landscape for the public office sought

  4. Identify a support system for a potential campaign

  5. Create a plan for next steps, should the attendee decide to run for office or volunteer on a campaign

Target Audience

Anyone considering running for local or state office or volunteering on a campaign

Timing

The Getting Ready to Run training is typically offered in odd-numbered summers to ensure potential candidates can make an informed decision about whether or not they want to run for local or state office prior to the December 1st start of the spring filing period and to allow potential volunteers to connect with candidates.
